Talk with Hayley Newman & Emily Speed

Castlefield Gallery, Manchester
23 March 2013 / 3:30-5pm

To coincide with their two person exhibition, Castlefield Gallery is pleased to host a panel discussion between Hayley Newman and Emily Speed chaired by independent curator Bridget Crone/ Plenty Projects.

Both artists work explores the relationship between the body and architecture. Using an eclectic range of media from sculpture and video to performance and writing, their work can be seen to continue a tradition in female performance and sculpture that explores physical limitations and mental or emotional trajectories, orchestrating narratives that play with the precariousness of the body’s relationship to one’s environment.

Anna invited me to join her during her residency to discuss the developing work with her and to write a text that will accompany the work when it is completed. It’s been a joy working with Anna and you can view our ongoing conversations on the project blog.
